St Merryn, Cornwall

Dan and I took Monty camping in cornwall, we stayed at a campsite called Trewithen Caravan & Camping which was a short walk from The Cornish Arms.
The restaurant was beautiful inside and out, with great views and a great location. perfect for families and couples looking for a date night location.
We sat in the restaurant rather than outside as it was a little cold, Monty snuggled up on Dan's jumper under the table And stayed settled for the whole meal.

As it's Rick Stein it was a little expensive but not ridiculously over priced. I ordered scallops with an asian twist as a starter. It's the only time I've ever tried scallops so I don't know how they'd stand up against the rest really but they were lovely! The only thing I'd say is that they came in the shells on a bed of sea salt. Aesthetically this looked great, logistically however it made it a bit of a nightmare to eat them gracefully without accidentally covering them in salt or shooting soy sauce across the table. Nonetheless greedy guts over here managed to work it out and got them down as quick as possible.

Dan on the other hand went for the Prawns that looked just as lovely. It came with warm thickly cut seeded brown bread and a dipping sauce with lemon to squeeze over the prawns.
For mains I decided on the devilled mackerel, I'd only ever had peppered mackerel before so thought i'd give it a try and it was delicious! I would recommend ordering a side with this, I went for buttered cabbage.
Dan had the mussels in white wine sauce with a side of skinny fries. They came in a huge bowl and looked lush so I’d definitely recommend those as well. Both of us left the restaurant full bellied and decided to stay for a drink outside. Monty mooched around the outdoor seating area whilst we chatted for a round or two until we walked back to our campsite.
If you're looking for a 'posh' dog friendly meal in this area then this is definitely one to try!
